Theme of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down" by Jeff Kinney

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down" By Jeff Kinney

The theme of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down" is "Being open-mined can help you be a better person and can help you throughout your life." I decided on this theme by remembering how Greg's mom wants Greg to not just play video games but do other things. Things such as reading books and playing outside. Even though Greg's mom likes this idea, Greg thinks that video games are fun and you learn a lot from them. I think that Greg's mom has the better side of this argument because being open-minded can help you in your career when you get older and you want to pick a job. So, being open-minded can help you throughout your life.

Entry 006

How do you feel about being eleven? What are some advantages and disadvantages?

Being eleven makes me feel more like an adult and less like a child. I can do things that I couldn't have done in the past such as heating up food in the microwave and using the toaster. I also have a say in things with family and friends and I can walk all the way to the bus stop without anybody else.

An advantage with being eleven is that I can do more stuff in the kitchen without someone helping me. However, in middle school, I have a lot more work and a lot less time to play. These days, the only time I get to play is Friday.

This is how my life is being eleven.

Tangerine Prediction

I think that the book "Tangerine" will be about a boy who plays soccer and during one of his soccer games, an eclipse occurred. His family lives in a Quonset hut because they are poor even though his dad is a civil engineer. The boy has friends whose parents do not want them to play with each other because of their economical differences. So, he is surrounded with issues between friends and has to tell the unwanted truth. He lives near a lake where many ospreys swoop down and take fish and there was a muck fire in his house. People think that the boy does not look good and that he is a younger brother who think that his life is the hardest. The school that he goes to is filled with termites. On his hiking trip he saw a sinkhole and on that trip he was diagnosed with aneurysm. This is what I think that the book "Tangerine" will be about.

Tangerine Reflection #1

I agree and disagree that life is harder for the child who is not the oldest one. I feel this way because my friend is a younger child and he gets whatever he wants. However, my other friend is the older one and always gets credit for everything.
The two kids also get very pressurized. The older child always has to set a good example for the younger child. The younger kid must also at least follow the older kid's footsteps or else they will get in a lot of trouble.
This shows that I agree and disagree that life is harder for the child who is not the oldest one.

Entry 005

12. Describe something in the chapter that surprised you.

Something in that chapter that surprised me is that Isabelle says that Hugo's notebook was not burnt and that the old man still has it. This surprised me because Hugo was depressed for so long but then suddenly this great news came. This is the climax of my book.

Entry 004

19. What do you hope will happen in the story when you read it next?

I hope that Hugo Cabret will be able to get back his notebook from the cruel old man who is making him do work. With the notebook, he will hopefully be able to finish making his automaton and make his dreams come true. I hope this because Hugo is anxious to finish making the automaton but he doesn't exactly know how to. Getting the notebook will guide him through the steps.

Week of Respect

How do you respect yourself every day?

Respect is something that makes people feel better about themselves and sometimes it just makes some people's days happier. However, respect does not have to be given to others, it can be given to yourself too.
Every day, I respect myself by brushing my teeth to keep my teeth clean, and so when I eat, the germs won't go into my stomach with my food. I also pray to god every morning to ask for a good day. Then, I go to school to keep learning new things. In the evening, I take a bath to keep myself clean. Throughout the day, I also eat. Eating gives my body energy and nutrients to keep myself healthy. This is how I respect myself every day.
